Foundation Dogs The first Portuguese Water Dog who came to live at Gemson was a bitch from Trish Gilpin (Glenwhin) called Glenwhin Bequadro (Caramba Do Condinho x Balalaika De Alvalade) This lovely black wavy bitch was to be the start of my absolute passion for this breed. Smithie was born on 10th April l986 and died peacefully in 2001. She was beautiful and smart and loving and tremendous fun. She loved to show and was always in the cards even though at many shows in the early days the judges were not sure of the standard as the breed were still very rare in the UK. Smithy wanted a Portie pal as she was convinced she was a Doberman (she lived with my four Dobes and picked up all their characteristics). Next to arrive at Gemson (also from Trish Gilpin ) was Glenwhin Cafezinho at Gemson Born 13th January 1989 (Portuguese Champion Batel de Alvalade x Portuguese Champion Josefina De Azambuja) Tuther again was the consummate showman and his career included Best in Show at the Portuguese Water Dog Club of Great Britain in 1995 and the pinnacle Best of Breed at Crufts in 1996. Tuther was Top Stud Dog in Great Britain from 1996 to 1999. I have no Dobermans now just six gorgeous Porties who are my pride and my joy.
